Bookward Terms of Service

Effective date: September 11, 2026

Last updated: September 11, 2026

These Terms of Service govern your use of Bookward for iOS and Android and its related services, provided by Daniel de Azcárate Muñoz. By downloading, installing, accessing, or using Bookward, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

The Privacy Policy is part of the framework governing your use of Bookward and explains how we handle information.

1. The Service

Bookward is a tool for organizing books, recording reading sessions and progress, creating collections and scenes, using reminders, consulting catalogs, and, on supported devices, limiting distractions during a session. It may offer optional accounts, private backups, social profiles, and premium features.

Bookward does not provide full book texts, does not replace a lawful copy of a work, and does not guarantee specific reading goals, habits, or outcomes. Features may vary by device, operating system, region, version, and plan.

2. Eligibility and account

You must have legal capacity to accept these Terms. If you are a minor, you need the authorization and supervision required by the law of your country.

Core features may be used without an account. Cloud backups, social profiles, connections, suggestions, and other connected features may require sign-in with Apple or Google. You must protect your device and account, provide accurate information, and notify us if you suspect unauthorized use. You may not transfer, sell, or share an account in a way that compromises the Service.

3. License

We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use Bookward on devices you control, solely for personal purposes and under these Terms and the relevant store rules. Ownership of Bookward and its components is not transferred to you.

4. Your content

You retain any rights you have in notes, images, collection names, and other content you add. You grant us only the technical permissions needed to host, copy, transmit, convert, and display that content to provide features you request, such as a private backup or profile image.

You are responsible for ensuring your content is lawful and that you have the right to use it. Do not upload content that infringes copyright, privacy, or other rights; is unlawful, harmful, or abusive; or contains malware. We may remove connected content or limit a feature where reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect others, or keep the Service secure.

5. Catalogs and third-party content

Titles, authors, ISBNs, covers, descriptions, and other metadata may come from Google Books, Open Library, ISBNdb, Wikidata, or other rightsholders. They may be inaccurate, incomplete, or changed. Rights belong to their respective owners. Bookward does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, availability, or license of each item and may correct, replace, or remove catalog data.

Third-party links and services are governed by their own terms and policies. We do not control their availability or content.

6. Purchases, trials, and subscriptions

  • Purchases are processed by Apple App Store or Google Play and are subject to the terms shown by the store before confirmation.
  • The price, duration, free trial if any, currency, taxes, and billing date are shown on the store purchase screen.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled with the notice and method stated by the store. You can manage them through your Apple or Google account.
  • Deleting Bookward, erasing its data, or closing a Bookward account does not cancel a store subscription.
  • Refund requests are made to the store and are granted under its rules and applicable law.
  • RevenueCat helps verify access and restore purchases. You must use the correct store account and, where relevant, the same Bookward account.

We may change premium features or future prices, but a change to an active subscription will follow any notice, consent, store rules, and law that apply.

7. Backups, exports, and data loss

Your library is stored primarily on your device. You can export a local copy and, with a compatible account, manually upload private backups. Backups are not continuous synchronization and do not replace your own backup strategy. We retain no more than the three most recent cloud backups.

Device loss, damage, or replacement, deleting Bookward, or an incomplete backup may cause data loss. You are responsible for checking that exports and backups finish successfully. We will use reasonable efforts to maintain backup features, but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or recovery of data that was never uploaded or exported.

8. Reminders and distraction blocking

Reminders depend on system permissions and services. Distraction blocking depends on Screen Time or Family Controls and may be affected by Apple limitations, system changes, restarts, revoked permissions, or external settings. These features support habits but do not guarantee an app will always remain blocked and must not be used as a safety control, parental supervision system, or emergency measure.

9. Acceptable use

You may not:

  • Use Bookward for illegal, fraudulent, abusive purposes or to violate third-party rights.
  • Attempt unauthorized access to accounts, backups, servers, or other people's data.
  • Interfere with the Service, evade technical limits, introduce malicious code, or automate requests abusively.
  • Copy, modify, decompile, sell, rent, or distribute Bookward except where the law does not allow that restriction.
  • Impersonate others, manipulate votes, or use profiles and suggestions for spam, harassment, or unlawful content.

10. Intellectual property

Bookward, its software, design, brand, and original content belong to Daniel de Azcárate Muñoz or his licensors and are protected by applicable law. These Terms do not grant rights in trademarks, code, designs, or materials except for the limited license above.

11. Availability and changes

We may maintain, update, add, limit, or remove features to improve security, compatibility, or operation. We will try to avoid unnecessary interruptions, but Bookward may be temporarily unavailable. We may discontinue the Service, seeking to give reasonable notice where possible and allow data export where practical.

12. Suspension and termination

You may stop using Bookward and delete your account in the app. We may suspend or terminate connected features for a serious or repeated breach, security risk, fraud, legal obligation, or discontinuation. Where reasonable, we will provide the reason and a contact route. Provisions that by nature should continue, including intellectual property, liability, and dispute resolution, survive termination.

13. Warranties and liability

Bookward is provided with reasonable care and subject to mandatory consumer rights. To the extent permitted by law, it is provided as is and as available, without additional warranties of uninterrupted operation, complete freedom from errors, specific results, or permanent third-party availability.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including mandatory consumer rights. To the fullest extent permitted, we are not liable for indirect loss or loss that was not reasonably foreseeable when you accepted these Terms. If you paid for the Service, any applicable limit will be interpreted consistently with consumer law.

14. Indemnity

Where permitted by law and only for professional use or use contrary to these Terms, you agree to be responsible for third-party claims arising from unlawful content, infringement of rights, or abusive use of the Service. This clause does not reduce rights you have as a consumer.

15. Privacy

The Bookward Privacy Policy describes what information we process, why, for how long, and your options and rights. Review it before using account, backup, analytics, or support features.

16. Apple terms

If you download Bookward from Apple App Store, these Terms are between you and Daniel de Azcárate Muñoz, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Bookward or its support. To the extent required by App Store rules, Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce applicable provisions. Your use is also subject to Apple's usage rules and must not conflict with them.

17. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by Spanish law without depriving you of mandatory protections in your place of residence. If you are a consumer, you may use the courts and dispute mechanisms available under applicable law. Before making a claim, we encourage you to contact us so we can try to resolve it informally.

18. Changes to the Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect changes to Bookward, law, or providers. We will publish the updated version and revise the date above. For material changes, we will give reasonable notice. Where consent is legally required, we will request it before the change applies.

19. General

If a provision cannot be enforced, it will be adjusted or severed only to the minimum extent necessary, and the remainder continues. A delay in enforcing a right is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without consent unless law provides otherwise. We may assign them in a legitimate reorganization provided mandatory rights are not reduced.
